Paint Nite

So, as just about everyone knows, Paint Nites are the current rage for ladies of all ages these days. As an artist, I was intrigued. And slightly nervous! I mean, what if I totally embarassed myself in public?! I'm a ridiculously slow painter to begin with, so the idea of completing a painting in just a couple hours didn't seem feasible.

My first experience, both my sisters received gift certificates to an official "Paint Nite" event, so I decided to tag along. It was a simple rendition of Van Gogh's Starry Night, but with the skyline of the lovely Star City (Roanoke, VA) in place of the original. Clever idea, but I don't live in Roanoke, so I decided I would stick closer to the original design in my painting. After all, in the event's advertisements, it blatently encourages each person to make their painting their own. Apparently, however, the instructor we had reaaalllly didn't like that! Awkward. But whatevs. I ended up with a semi-decent painting considering I had to hustle (we're talking 2.5ish hours). Maybe this would be a good exercise for me in speeding up my process.

My 2nd paint night experience was hosted by my church (Henry Fork Church of the Brethren shoutout!) and was led by one of the teachers from my school. It wasn't an "official" Paint Nite; she hosts her own version called "Drinks & Designs". From the start, I could tell it was going to be a better, more relaxing experience!

She was very comfortable with and encouraging of everyone to customize their painting- a cute scarecrow Fall theme. I did. I ended up influencing some of the paintings around me, but it was unintentional! I get so focused on what I'm doing that I don't even notice anyone else. My mom thinks I should teach those classes, but I'm pretty much the worst explainer ever. Seriously. Anywho, here is my painting from this weekend:

A time limit is a good thing. If I had more time, I would've added soooo many more details, but honestly, it doesn't really need anything. I'm happy with it! :)

That's all I have time for now... later!
